    Closing down Access takes ages

I'm using Access 2000 and every time I shut down my database, it takes ages (the screen locks up) and it creates a duplicate copy of the database.

I seem to recall it saying, on a few occasions, that it was something to do with a "Read Only" file; can anyone help please ?

    Thanks

Have you set up to do a Compact and Repair on closing? Or code that does a Backup every time you close the mdb?

    Thanks for the reply orange.

At the risk of sounding stupid, I don't know whether I've set it up to do a Compact and Repair on closing - where would I go to find out if I have ?

I'm 99.9% sure I haven't set up any code that does a backup every time I close it as that would be a handy thing for it to do that it doesn't currently.

    I hope you can help.

    Thanks

    Thanks for that.

Just to let you know, the link you sent me didn't really answer my question; you might want to consider that if anyone else asks the same question as it didn't really help at all.

I couldn't see a reply to my question in your post either but spent a bit of time looking online and eventually found an answer and solved it myself.

    Firstly, to quote your question:

I don't know whether I've set it up to do a Compact and Repair on closing - where would I go to find out if I have ?
secondly, extract from first line of first post in the linked forum:

I was looking around in the options and see a check box to compact and repair
    the database on close
That would be the number one place to check to see if you have compact and repair on close enabled.

If you would be so kind as to post what your answer was you might help someone one who was in your position.
