Combo box problem

I am a beginner in Access. I have designed a very small and simple database to practice with. I have made a form with a Combo Box. I can use the drop down menu to select the item I want and the information that is connected to that item is displayed correctly, but if I tab through the form and onto a new form and use the keypad to start entering the first letters of the data that I want from the drop down list, as I tab away from the Combo Box, Access tells me that the text I entered is not in the list. I can then select the item from the list with my mouse. Everything works fine then. What could I be doing wrong. I can't figure it out. Help would be greatly appreciated!

Could you provide the project for analysis? Make copy, remove confidential data, run Compact & Repair, zip if large, attach to post. The Attachment manager is below the Advanced post editor.

I was looking at something different in my database and came across an empty record. I happened to go back to the combo box and then it worked just like normal. I guess I was saving records that were blank. I will have to set the properties so that data must be entered. Thank you very much for your helpful reply.
