Field too small to accept the data

    Hi everybody!

I am trying to insert data into a table through a combo on a form. Originally, I had the text field size set at 15 characters, but the data I wanted to enter changed to 25 characters in length, so I changed the field size to 25. I then got the following message:

"The field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add. Try inserting or pasting less data."

I increased the size, but still got the message. I even took the size right up to 100, but still got the message! Does anybody have any ideas?

    Jonathan

    Hi -

Did you change the size of the field in the table the combo box is drawing its data from? Adding new values through the combo box updates the combo box source table as well as the table field the combo box is bound to on the form.

No, that field is big enough. Anyway, it would not have accepted the new data value if it was too small. It is the destination table that is having the trouble.

I have seen Access do odd things they don't tell you sometimes.

This is a bit of a shot in the dark, but try opening the form in design view, reselect the table the form has as its recordsource, and reselect the table field the combo box is bound to. You are not really changing anything, of course, but you are forcing Access to "take another look" at the table.

LOL!! I have found the problem!

I had recently shifted the DB to another location. When I copied it back, my FE was still linking to the BE in the other location! So, I was changing the field size in the wrong BE!

Sorry for wasting your time John!

    Best regards,
    Jonathan
