    Can't selectAll in design view

I am using Access2007 with W7. It has worked well for a couple of years. All my files are saved as A2003.

All over sudden, when I go to to a form's design screen, I don't get that little square on upper left that lets me deal with form events, data, formats etc. If I right click on an empty space, select properties, I get the headings, but Data has no source name. This happens on several different files, so not just happening on Current DB. Have I inadvertently clicked something or is my program corrupt?

Very frustrating, any help much appreciated

Can you post some screen shots of what you describe? Or provide the project for analysis? Follow instructions at bottom of my post.

I have messed with this some more and find that what I am really asking for is to display the ruler on forms. The ruler has that little square on upper left that I have always used to change form properties. I don't see the ruler anymore. I googled and found that there is supposed to be a ruler button in the show/hide section of the arrange tab. I don't have it. Any suggestions?. I did find that by clicking on a blank area that I could get to the form properties.

I liked your site and finally got some understanding of the Immediate Window function

I like that site too, but it is not mine, Mr. Pearson gets all the credit.

I found the toggle for Ruler on Arrange tab:
for 2007 it is on Show/Hide section
for 2010 it is under Size/Space dropdown menu.

Don't know why you don't have the Ruler toggle available. I see four toggles on Show/Hide.

What exactly are you trying to do here? I ask because

Your title reads "Can't selectAll in design view"

Your first post reads "I don't get that little square on upper left that lets me deal with form events, data, formats etc."

You then say "...find that what I am really asking for is to display the ruler on forms"

    • Are you positive that you're in Form Design View, not Layout View?
    • Are you using an MDE File, rather than an MDB file?
    • Do you have a full Access install on board, rather than running under Runtime?

Any of the above three items would make it impossible to make design changes to the file. As, sadly, would Corruption, of either the Form in question or of the app as a whole.

Missing, think you have a typo:
"Are you using an MDB File, rather than an MDB file?"

Emabarrased-You are right, it is there to select, I don't know how I missed it-must have been looking for something different. How the ruler dsappeared is a mystery. Thanks much for responding to this, I appreciate it much. gg80
