Posting new thread - text is too long

But when I put in my text, the overall length of it is much shorter than others I've seen on here. What is going on?

Maybe you're trying to post a lot more than you think. I imagine you're copying and pasting so paste it in to Word first then use word count on Review tab of the ribbon and see what you get for a count.

Are you trying to paste an image? The site software doesn't handle that properly and will trigger the error you described.
If so, instead use the attachment button after clicking the Go Advanced button.
