    Access vs Comercially available databases

    Hi everyone,
    Please share your thoughts.
I have been an Access database user and developer for over three decades. Now, I am wondering if anyone in this forum has heard of Automated Laboratory Information System (ALIS). I am being asked to possibly switch from my current Access database in which I have a great workflow and etc. to this commercially available Automated Laboratory Information System (ALIS).
Please let me know if you have ways to perhaps distinguish concerns in performing the switch.
Thank you so much for any input.

I sincerely doubt any out of the box DB is going to do everything you want, even if this is a disguised plug for ALIS ?
Even if it is dedicated to one industry, you would likely need to conform to how the designers created it, and not your individual workflow?

An important point of attention in my opinion is the possibility of transferring data. I assume that you want to have certain data from the existing system also available in the new system. Does the new system offer possibilities to import data? Also consider that the data structure of both systems can differ, which can make transferring data problematic.

    Thanks you guys.
As you can imagine 20+ years of access development then being asked to switch over this new ALIS. I do not know much about it other than what I can find on the net and YouTube. I am concerned of losing functionality for example ALIS might import the raw data but not the logic behind it, like form behaviors, event handling, filtering, or calculations and etc. Then if I cannot tweak this app we could be looking at time and cost of migrating everything correctly, even if data import is possible, re-building what we already have in Access could be expensive and disruptive. Again anyone heard of this ALIS if you help me justify or suggest why switch or why not switch would be amazing.
    Thank you.

Yes sir Welshgasman I have posted the same question at two other access forums as I am looking to build a justification.
Again any recommendations would immensely helpful.

    Thank you

Always polite to inform each site that you have done so, with links to those threads.
No-one wants to waste their time offering advice, that has already been offered, but they are unaware òf that.
