Access Database for barcoding and tracking W.I.P.

    Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and would like a sanity check on a project that I have been assigned. I work for a small manufacturing company and they are looking to implement a home grown labor tacking system using access and bar coding. My thought is that this could be accomplished by setting up a database on the company server and having multiple workstation be able to input scanned data in to a form that would populate the data into the server database. Does this sound feasible? I have very little experience with this sort of thing and will be learning as I go but I wanted to make sure that I was at least on the right path. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated and thank you all in advance.

Sure, that may be the most common setup. It's called a split database. The back end contains only tables, and sits on the server. The front end contains the forms, reports, etc, and of course tables that are linked to the back end. Each user has a copy on their computer. More here:

Thanks Paul, I appreciate the quick feedback and I'm sure this won't be the last time I'm looking for support.
