How to alter letterheads etc. behind database fascia / front end? Thanks

    Hello everyone,

    Here's my problem:
I used to be able to get in behind my database in order to change letterheads etc.
I used to get in by using Shift, Enter whilst the icon was selected.
However, since the database has been moved onto a Windows 10 and also a Windows 7 PC (I was on Windows 2000), this trick no longer works.
Any ideas please? I'd ask the guy who programmed it but he has run off somewhere, absolutely no trace or forwarding address

    Thanks in advance
    Best

Nothing to do with windows version.
The database has been made more secure by various settings in database options.
If you have access to that section, you can alter the options.
However if you are using a runtime version of Access, that's not possible.
Similarly if this is an ACCDE file your options are limited

    NOTE
I've deliberately not given you specific details as I've no idea whether you should have access to the backstage section of this database

    Hello Colin,

Thanks for your reply. Oh dear, what can I do then? I am the only one who should have access because it is my business database but I have no idea how to alter the database options. The man who wrote it for me isn't around any more so I can't ask him.

But, also, Colin, it did used to work for me. I did used to be able to get to the back end and alter the content of letters etc.
If it's not the Windows version, how can this have changed?

    Thanks

    B

    Also, I can get:
    Form View
    Datasheet View
    PivotTable View
    PivotChart View and
    Data View

And could alter those (except I don't want to). I just want to alter the letterheads and the content of the letters - this must be possible if I have those permissions, mustn't it?

    Thanks,
    B

If it's your property, there are companies that will unlock for you ..for a fee
Your question is a common one, often from people on their first post and we have to be cautious.
Those who make such requests Often never make another post.

If you used to have access to the backstage, you or someone else must have blocked that or it's due to reasons I gave before.
Suggest you Google database options for instructions which may solve your issue.

Can you see the code or is it a ACCDE file?

Thank, Colin, I understand - I assume it's not ACCDE because there is an option ( a button ) which says, in Design View, "Make ACCDE' and allows me to save it that way if I want to.

I can see the code in the sense of seeing the buttons laid out in Design View, yes

Its an ACCDB file because you have the option to make an ACCDE version.
If you click Database Tools ... Visual Basic, you will open the Visual Basic editor & be able to see the code

You said you can view forms etc in Design view so you can therefore edit the design changing your old letterhead for your new one

chances are the letterheads are in reports, not forms. It may be you are not seeing all the objects in the navigation pane

at the top of the navigation pane (on the left of the access window) click on the dropdown

Name:	Capture.JPG
Views:	12
Size:	23.9 KB
ID:	33111

and either select all access objects as per this image or reports

    edit:
However, since the database has been moved onto a Windows 10 and also a Windows 7 PC (I was on Windows 2000)
does that mean your database is written in Access 2000? If so, you need to upgrade to at least access 2003, preferably 2010 because if you buy a current version of access (i.e. access 2016) it will not open an access 2000 database.

Thanks, Colin and Ajax, this is really appreciated. I will try all this and let you know how I get on. Ajax, I believe it kight be 2000 - it was done ages ago. Is it simple to upgrade to 2003? Do I just search Google and download it?

    Thanks

Do you really think MS would be as rich as they are by letting you download Access for free?
Check the version of Access you are currently using
According to your 'strapline' its Access 2010 64-bit

In the File ...Save As area, save as ACCDB file. That will then open in any version of Access from 2007 onwards

Ajax rightly pointed out the letterhead is more likely to be in a report than a form! Typo on my part

Hello Ajax, I don't have this drop down - and yes, my DB was done on 2000. So I have found Access 2010 and can buy that - will Access 2010 show me the above dropdown when I convert, please?
    Thanks so much,

    B

Hello Colin, agreed It is 2000, I have tried to change details but it's so old 2000 does not appear there! I have found a copy of 2010 to buy and can do that
    Thanks again,
    B

It now says you are using 2002!
If not too late, recommend you purchase 32-bit version of Access 2010 UNLESS your databases were made in 64-bit (sounds unlikely)
