Saving a linked table withe new filed additions

I am trying add a new filed to an existing MS Access 2010 db table.

It is a simple addition of each person's email address in the personnel table.

    That should be easy.

I start typing in the blank row at the bottom of the table in design view and everything works fine.

    1. email address <actual email address> and then provide a decryption for the field, obviously in my case in would email address.

    Everything is fine.

Then when I save it, the error pops up:

    Microsoft Cannot Save Property

Changes for linked table. Save Anyway?

Of course I then cancel out of the whole process. I am not sure why
I cannot save the table. This is an all new and while the table is linked, this
new filed is not. How can I change this?

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Respectfully,

you cannot save changes in the linked table form the front end. Open the back end and make the changes there

I only have one db. I have not split the db into a front end and a back end. That just does not exist here.

    So what do I do?

I only have one db, no front and back end.

Okay, I have added a compacted zipped version of my db. In it you will see a layout tables with no relationships. this is incorrect. The table design layout should show the relationships for the
db. It did in earlier versions. it just does not in this version. I cannot explain why

Now when I modify the table by adding a new field to it then try to save it, it (MS Access 2010) says that cannot
change field design for a linked table. The table has no links however.

Now I am confused. The table links are there they are just missing. I don't know why.

Any when I try to save this nonsplit db the error that I mentioned above pops up.

How can I save this db.?

    Thanks in advance.

tblPersonnel IS a linked table which points to Division_Dashboard_datafile.accdb located in folder C:\Users\james.yunker\Desktop\Mike's -5\data. As Ajax said, you have to open THAT database in design mode and add the field. Next time you open this database, you should see the new field(s).

What a minute. I did open that db in design mode and then added the field to the table and then, I could not save it because the personnel table was linked.

I did what you said. I am just unsure now as to what else I can do.

Open and unzip my NewZip4.zip file notice it has no relationships between the tables. This is annoying.

The db has been copied many times, and I am sure the db should have retained the relationships. I cannot see them in the relationships report. What is going on?

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Okay, maybe I have found the answer and it is a bit long in explanation.

The database that I have zipped and uploaded is a copy of an original database. I just took the completed db from a location on our server and made a copy. I then passed it on my desktop and added the table files, they are located in a subfolder named data and the db is located in a folder named xxxx-5.accdb which has a subfolder name data that contains the tables.

I then stated to modify the db. Doing such things as adding another field on the table. When it says that it cannot save a linked table and that I must modify the source is this what it is taking about?

That would explain a lot of things if that were the case.

I think if I modify the table in the subfolder then everything will be alright. Is this possible?

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Lou Reed

I simply cannot make any changes in the db's tables and save them because it says the table is linked and this no changes are allowed.
