Trying to generate a really simple graph in Access 2010, but failing. Help!

    Hi,

I have a table with a column of dates and a column of numbers:

All I need is the world's simplest graph, with "bacteria" on the vertical axis, and "date" on the horizontal axis. I'm trying to do this by embedding a chart on a form. When I click the 'preview' button, I see a chart which is exactly what I want:

However, when I click 'Next' then 'Finish' (no legend), I am presented with this:

I have no idea why this is happening. Can anyone help?

    Thanks!

it may be something to do with your dates. In design view, right click on the graph and select datasheet. Widen columns if necessary - do you see the correct values for dates?

You are using sumofbacteria, but I suspect these do not need to be summed, so try changing the summarise to none. Edit: apparently you can't sum if the other axis is a date type, so forget this

Also you have a wide range of dates - potentially some 2000 columns which may be beyond the capabilities of Access to display. Either way, perhaps try a more limited range of dates (either from/to or use by months) and/or widen the graph control

    Solved!

    Hi,

Thanks for that. I tried what you said, but also removed a second graph which was on the same form. Either way, something I did worked, and I now have the graph I was looking for:

    Thanks for your help.
