    Lookup field insits being number

Perhaps a newb question, but I have a particular table (Projects) that anytime I create a lookup field to reference another particular table (Offices/Location) and field, the lookup field is stating a numeric value. However, the lookup field is not supposed to be a numeric value and so I can't get the result I'd like.

I've messed around with this for hours and what I dont understand is why this is happening in the one instance - since I am able to freely make lookup fields elsewhere in my database with no problems. Any help is appreciated, and i've included screen shots.

This is the most referenced article in posts dealing with Lookup fields in Tables.
Most developers will advise you to NOT use lookups at the table field level.
Build a real table and do the Lookup(s) on a Form.
