Totals not showing up on form

Sometimes users experience totals not showing up on a form or being delayed a few seconds or several minutes. We have assumed this to be possibly a video card problem which is supported by the problem not appearing on all the machines they use. But I would like to know if there are other explanations.

What is the calculation involved in the totals? Tables involved? Hardware involved? Database.form design?
Could be a lot of processing going on, reading tables... or coding issues (loops, structures...)

Access database. Could be any version of Office from 2002 to latest. Could be different versions of Windows. Complex forms doing many calculations. Not using vba for the form calculations. Using vba code to produce merged documents which use the data and show the totals. So we know it is in the tables. In one example the totals showed up after the user closed the navigation pane.

Video card would be low on my list.

-look for a PC with the fast response, and the PC with a slow response
-identify the hardware of each, the Office/Access version on each
    -what things are different
that should be a starting point

?Why so many versions of Office/Access (2002 to latest)??
?How do you manage the application with these different versions??

I develop in the lowest version of Access and maintain an .mdb file for all customers. Customers update their equipment and software to their schedule, not mine, and not Microsofts. Thanks for the ideas. Very helpful.
