How to create a parameter for a report

Hello, I would like to include a button on my switchboard that when clicked, the user will be allowed to put in a parameter. For example, I have a field called "Category". I want the user to be able to type [like "*beverage*"] and a report is displayed with all records that have the word beverage in the [category] field.
