Access Newbie - Need some tips to get started

Hello, I am very new to Access. I am hoping someone could take a look at what I'm trying to accomplish and point me in the right direction. It seems to be a fairly simple process

I will be taking measurements of raw materials (each one is unique) and then based on those measurements assigning a list of finished goods that can be made from it. For example raw material X can produce finished good 1, 2, and 4 but not 3. My ultimate goal is for users to be able to browse and select the raw materials they need that they will need to produce the FGs they need to meet their goal.

For example, it's Thursday and I need 3 more finished good "1"'s to meet my goal for the week. I want to select FG1 and have access tell me that raw materials X, Y, and Z can make FG1 and available.

That is the basic concept. I'm very good with excel and I know I could probably slap something together for this that would work out just fine for me, but I'm hoping to use Access and make something visually nice and user-friendly for anyone to use.

Thank you in advance for taking a look and providing any tips to get me started, I really appreciate it.

    Paul

There will be a large learning curve because Access relies on a Relational Database. This is the opposite of Excel, where a spreadsheet is a flat file and relations are not defined.

Maybe this 15 minute video will help and provide a high level view.
