    Checking Lookup Wizard steps

Okay in the tutorial shown in this link http://www.functionx.com/access/Lesson34.htm

    it says:

    1. Set the Data Type of EmployeeID to Lookup Wizard. Use the wizard to select the following columns of the Employees table: EmployeeNumber, LastName, and FirstName
    2. Set the Data Type of CustomerID to Lookup Wizard. Use the wizard to select the AccountNumber and the CustomerName columns of the Customers table
    3. Set the Data Type of TransactionTypeID to Lookup Wizard. Use the wizard to select the TransactionType field of the TransactionTypes table
    4. Set the Data Type of ChargeReasonID to Lookup Wizard. Use the wizard to select the ChargeReason field of the ChargeReasons table

Now when I do that the Data Type of EmployeeID (and the remaining ones CustomerID, TransactionTypeID, ChargeReasonID) always finish with the Data Type being Number. I do not think that we are back to where we started it was Number for the Date Type when I started.

I did follow the guide the tutorial Yugo National Bank at this site. I am just unsure if all the steps were accepted since the Data Type is Number. How can I check that it got the input steps as specified in the tutorial. I assume it should read number for Data Type after these steps listed above..

    Respectfully,

    Lou Reed

Most us don't (won't) use lookup fields. That said, number is the correct data type (presuming EmployeeNumber is numeric). A lookup field stores the ID field, even though it may display text.

Okay, I am just working on the tutorial. It asked me to do it. I did it.

Sorry, I wasn't criticizing, just informing. I feel like I also addressed the question.

yes this is correct; it starts out as Lookup Wizard - and then when you select the table to be looked up (and linked) the field's data type will change to whatever is the cross referencing field type - in your case a number.

what displays in the field is default the 2nd field - which is typically the text info - - but this can be changed from the default
