    Dispatch - CAD, Possible?

    Hello,

I am interested in creating a database to act as a Dispatch call log / CAD system for our security officers. I know that there are many CAD systems out in the marketplace but from what I have seen, they are fairly expensive. Currently we use a MS Excel spreadsheet to keep and track our daily activity.

I was looking at the available templates and one that I came across was the Desktop services template, but I have a few questions. I wanted to be able to show a chronological view of the daily events over time. If someone calls up and asks for assistance of some kind (unlock a door, escort someone out to their car, jump start a vehicle, etc.) we just hit a button on the main screen that says "initial new call" and then assign a security officer (or officers if more than one is needed)

I also wanted to know if it would be possible to add a few things. For example, if we send people to a call and it is determined that a report is needed, is there a way to generate a incident report number by using a button on the screen that says "assign case number"? Also, is there a way to have the case number be in a specific format?

We don't write a ton of reports, but when we do, our case numbers are the date of the incident followed by a - and then a number, -1 if is the first report for that day, - 2 if it is the second report of the day, etc. Here is how our case numbers look 06162015-1 (first report for 06/16/2015) 06162015-2 (second report for 06/16/2015)

I hope I explained this well enough to make some sense and if the above is possible, how do I go about doing it?

Records can be sorted chronologically if there is a date value in records.

Generating custom unique identifier is a common topic. Here is one https://www.accessforums.net/forms/a...ing-23329.html
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.
