    comctl32.ocx

    Hi,
my access program needs comctl32.ocx. Since i changed to windows 7 this ocx cannot be read properly anymore. I registered it with windows which worked out fine. Still compiling Treeview or Statusbar does not work anymore (errors all the time). One time I tried mscomctl.ocx instead but i immediately got a message "not compatible". I programmed this access database with Ofice 2000 (maybe it is even older, I cannot remember). It worked under XP.
    Can anybody help?
    Best Regards,

It appears to still be supported http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/ms788708.aspx, at least on 32 bit machines.

What's your operating system, how many bits, and what version of Access?

    Here's a possible fix - http://forums.techarena.in/operating...ms/1357149.htm

Here's another, on a forum for a particular package that uses that one http://forums.winstep.net/phpBB2/vie...php?f=2&t=8450

    Hi Dal,
I followed the links you posted. If Microsoft still supports this OCX, I must somehow get my program going.
One of your links refers to mscomctl.ocx, but when I install that OCX instead of comctl32.ocx my database does not even run but ends right away with an "incompatible" message. I think that might be because mscomclt.ocx maybe did not yet exist when i wrote my program (with access 2000, later i converted my database to Access 2007).
The other link you posted is about multiple copies of comctl32.ocx which I do not have.
I have 64 bit windows 7 and registered comctl32.ocx in c:\windows\syswow64. I got a message from the system that it was registered with success. I looked at the properties of comctl32.ocx in syswow64: it has never been accessed! So no wonder my program cannot work with the functions it contains.
Could the following issue be a cause of this problem:
I cannot install Visual Basic 6.0 anymore. Win 7 says: incompatible.
Instead I installed VisualBasic6-KB896559-v1-DEU.exe and vbrun600.exe, thinking that that would be configure the system the same way.
Or must I maybe install some other 'replacement' for Visual Basic 6.0?

    Best Regards,

Sorry, that's way beyond my expertise. You might post the question on a VB forum, or you might check over at utteraccess.com, which tends to have a slightly deeper bench in the "odd" stuff than accessforums does.

    Hi Dal,
thanks very much for giving me help. When you mentioned VB I just got the certain feeling that the reason for my databasa failure had to do something with my VB installation. As I mentioned I could not install my old VB 6.0 because of incompatibility (does that word exist?. So I surfed the internet, and somewhere I found Visual Studio Express 10.0, as freeware. I installed it, ran my database and .... it works again! Obviously with this new VB I do not need all these old OCXs anymore.
    I'm so happy!
    Many greetings from Hamburg,
    Henriette

Excellent! Yes, the installation seemed a likely candidate as the problem, given the articles I found during my brief reseach.

Glad you found what you needed.
