Limit Detail Records

I have a report that has a date range as the main parameter. The group header shows the average of a number over the entire date range. The detail shows the detailed hours for each date in the range. I would like to limit the number of lines shown in the detail section to the most recent 8 records while keeping the average shown in the group header as the total average over the complete date range.

Here's what I'd do - load the header TEXT with the dates range and the average hours for the date range, calculated using the DAvg function, but have the detail depend on a query that only returns the TOP 8 records.
