images not showing properly in form or report

Hello all,
In one of my databases, I have a form and a report where the images stored in my tables are not showing properly for all entries. They show as an icon with the file name rather than the image itself. This is not true for every entry, so I don't think it would be a problem with how the form and report are set-up. Any ideas?

What are the image file types? Are you using an Image control? If you want to provide db for analysis, follow instructions at bottom of my post.

they are bitmap images and i am using an image control. I will work on getting my file so it can be uploaded.

This is not true for every entry

Are they all bmp?
These should show by default, other file types may not show depending on the Photo Editing programs you have installed on your machine.

Are you just storing the Image Path and Filename in table or the actual image as an OLE Object as this can bloat the db.

Can you find an image that isn't working, go to the location of that image and check what filetype it is.

How are you displaying them on your Forms/Reports?

Right click on the Image and say "Open with >" then "Choose default program..."


Choose Paint and make sure the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is checked.

Thanks, Alex - all images are bmp files, and all were edited in Paint.

I am storing the actual image as an OLE object in the database. It hasn't slowed things down in the past, but the problem is only occurring on the newest entries, so could this be a factor?

All images, including those not showing properly, are bitmaps and are defaulted to open in Paint. The form is simply (on the working ones) showing the image thumbnail, while the report is displaying a small image with every report entry (I have one page per entry, with an image per page). On the report's print preview, those with this problem are simply blank where the image should show.

That's strange then, I'd assume that if one worked they should all work, if they are the same file type.

When you added the OLE object did you select the 'Link' and/or 'Display As Icon' options?

Since Access 2007 you can display an Image using the ControlSource property of a Picture set to a filepath/name.

I have never used the OLEObject controls for dynamic display of images with records. I have never stored images in an OLEObject field in table. I have used attachment field to store images and then dynamically display in an Image control. Have also linked Image control to external images.
