How do Import Phone numbers in Access database

I imported an Office 2010 excel file into Access 2010.
    All the headers match.
All the data transfered, but the phone numbers.
In Design View, the phone numbers are listed as numbers, not text.

Then I tried to copy the two columns from Excel and past into the two columns in the database. Ha Ha. No go. It did create a new table called Paste Errors.

How do I move that into the Table that I first created?

I need to know how to get the phone numbers in their because I need to import several other excel files into this table.

I am new to Access and I do appreciate any help you may give me.
    Thank you.

You are importing to a new table? Did you use the Import wizard? Did you set the phone number column as text type? The column in Excel is formatted as text and the phone numbers include hyphens?

    Yes to all.
Initially I imported to a tabel I had created.
With your questions, i imported to a new table. I changed excel column from General to Text format as you noted.
phone numbers show up through the import process. but do not make it to the table.
Errors as ACCESS analyzes the process:
    1. duplicate fields... I don't understand this. It is a list of members, so alot of poeple will have the same city and state.
    2. It wants me to move fields that repeat to a new table. I don't understand this. I have name, address, city, state, zip, phone, etc. across the top. I don't want to move anything to another table.

I am guessing that your table for some of the fields are set to no duplicates. Check the properties for your table to ensure that the properties for each of the fields allows for duplicates if that is what you want.

You may want to try to import your excel spreadsheet to a new table that has no restrictions versus an existing one.

Don't know what to say. I just tested importing an Excel sheet I created with column for phone number. I did no formatting of the column. The data is like: XXX-XXX-XXXX

No errors with import wizard but this is testing with Access 2007 now, will have to see what happens with 2010 later.
