append query, query!!

I have just stared using Microsoft Access to create an inventory database for fictional shop for school project. The plan is data (stock infomation) is entered into a form and stored in the Inventory table. when a sale is made i want this data to be removed from the inventory table and placed into a sales history table. i have had a good mess around with append queries but it keeps going wrong . can any of you guys help me out?
