    Access Tables Open in Excel

I have an Access 2010 database and I open several of the tables in an excel spreadsheet. All the tables are set to "read-only" in Excel. If I open a custom form, I always get a warning, "You do not have exclusive access to the database at this time. If you proceed to make changes, you may not be able to save them later." And indeed I cannot save changes. Does anyone have any suggestions to solve this as it is quite annoying. I can open the "straight" table without problems and modify data but not a form. Suggestions?
