Import .dat file into Access 2019

I am trying to import a .dat file into Access 2019 but when i select txt file it only gives me the option for txt csv tab or asc and not dat.

if i open the file in an editor and save it as a .txt and try to import it I get the message:
The Microsoft access database Engine could not find the object [filepath and name]. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and the path name correctly. If [filepath and name] is not a local object check your network connection or contact the server administrator.

The file is on the local machine and can be opened in a text editor.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening?
    Thanks

You are giving the reference to the file incorrectly.

I am trying to import a fixed file and it looks like there is something wrong with the file. It wont let me manually import using the specification to a linked table but if I create a local copy and try the import it shows 32 table import errors. This helped me to find the lines in the file that were causing the problems.
