Question Exploring MS Access for a small application that requires an nonTabular look when the user logs on.

    Hello,
We are Exploring MS Access for a small application that requires a nontabular look when the User logs on. As i am unsure if this is possible with Access i am looking for guidance here. To elaborate ... the User needs a Form/Screen kinda look with Buttons/ Links to perform basic tasks like create & Search records when he logs into the system & NOT the traditional tabular look of Access which is more like a default look i have come across so far. So any pointers or sample app links where this has been done already would be really appreciated.
    thanks in advance
    J

I'm not really sure what you mean by tabular look, unless you're referring to what data looks like in tables (similar to Excel). You can create a form with buttons to perform whatever procedures you want. Have you looked at the Northwind sample db/template?

Google "ms access forms" and choose the images option. Then feast your eyes.

That's good advice. I just looked at Northwind, it's probably the tabular look mentioned. None of my apps look like that.

Access has two mode settings: Tabbed Documents and Overlapping Windows. The first is default and I always change to the latter when creating new database. Either can have forms with buttons and other controls for GUI. In the first, forms designed as popup will not be a tabbed document but a 'floating' form. Either can have objects maximized to fill the app window.
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

Still not sure what you mean by Non-Tabular, if it isn't what you get when you use the form wizards.

I feel like I should change my screen name to May8 when posting with June7 and July6

Can u pls. point me where to find these mode settings u mention as i was unable to locate it? But having said that i did find an option through(File-->Options-->Current Db) to open a form. Now i am hoping i can have my buttons/Links to perform basic tasks like create & Search records on this Form/
Pls. correct me if i have made a wrong assumption.

Did you get template to download?

File > Options > Current Database > Document Window Options

Have you studied an introductory tutorial book on Access?
