combo box displays first item in list regardless of which item is selected

I have a form with two unbound combo boxes. Combo1 sets the list for combo2. That part works, but when I select any item in combo2 the first item in the list is displayed. The form does not have a Record Source. I will take the value of combo2 to set a field in another open form via a button.

oops, I had to change my bound column in combo2.
