Convert a custom MS Access 97 to MS Access 2010

    Hi,

I have a client that had a custom MS Access 97 custom database built by a one person company in 1999. It is a custom quoting system. The gentleman that built the program died a few years back and gave my customer a key to continued to reactivate the database.

Is there anyone out there that could tell me how to update 97 to 2010? When I try to install Access 2010 it tells me it is the wrong version and when I try opening the database with a 2010, it says wrong version.

I am willing to pay someone to fix it and take the security off the database so the customer doesn't have to continue to enter the security key.

    Thank you,
    Peter

Are you planning on updating it?
I could convert it into a accdb, that 2010 would be able to open.? You can do the code removing yourself.

However if it is still working as it should, and unless new features are required, I'd leav it as it is.
Customer will need the same version of Access if you update it, or the same runtime version?

Unfortunately, A2010 cannot open A97 files

You need to do it in 2 steps:
    1. Convert it to a Access 2000 or A2003 MDB
    2. Open that in Access 2010 then convert to ACCDB

If you don't have e.g. A2000 or 2003 to do step 1, then I may be able to help. See my article: https://www.isladogs.co.uk/database-...ion/index.html

Thank you all for the assistance. The trouble i am running into is the gentleman that created it did it in such a way that it is somehow coded to the server. And in upgrading his PC's / Replacing them, I have found that windows 10 or 11 doesn't like access 97 and really doesn't lick it when it is reconnected to the domain. The customer doesn't care if it remains 97, he just wants new computers. Thoughts?

What does "coded to the server" mean?
What happens if you copy the dB to, say a laptop, and try and open the dB?

How many people are using the dB at the same time?
    Is the dB split?

The dB is 23 years old. My thoughts would be "maybe it is time for a re-write".
