In my reports, even if I change the background color of the header & detail sections, there's still white space showing around the report elements in print preview mode. Is there any way to change the color of this white space?

can you set the report objects backcolor to transparent? or the same color as the section?
Maybe show a pic of design view. Neither gray box makes much sense in that view. Or simply make the backgrounds of those things transparent or white, assuming the paper is white. Basically, I'm repeating what you were advised to do in post 2.
The more we hear silence, the more we begin to think about our value in this universe.
Paraphrase of Professor Brian Cox.
There is always some non-printing area that will be white - allows for area printers cannot print in.

agree with June - print preview mode will be based on paper size.
Some things you can try, no guarantees of success
open the report as dialog/modal (or use overlapping windows) rather than the tabbed view you have at present. May also need to set the default printer to a pdf printer
less likely to be successful - in design view, increase the size of the report to completely fill the window - but likely to be a problem for multiple pages or different sizes of the access window
