    Problem exporting to XML

    Version:Access 2003

I have a Query defined that successfully returns 200 records. When I attempt to Export this query (data only, not the schema) to XML, the XML file does get generated, however, the XML file only contains the <dataroot generated="2010-09-09T10:19:25" /> element and none of the data records.

Any thoughts on why the data records are not getting exported to the XML file?

    Thanks,

    - Gary

I hope I am not sending you on a wild goose chase as I really don't get involved with xml exports; but if you have yet already - try first writing that query to a table; and then exporting the table to xml. rather than exporting a query.

    just a thought.

Access queries with a wildcard character do not export data to an XML document

As it turns out, you cannot have * characters in your query if you are exporting to XML. Once I modified the query as is specified in the mskb article, the XML exported just fine.
