Ya did it but, and there is always a but:

    1. When I try to added a lesson to a class that is already in the database, I get 'Index or primary key cannot contain a Null value' error.

    2. When I add a new record after selecting the appropriate division, the subform populates with every lesson rather than letting me choice which specific lessons apply to that class.

Man, I am starting to feel like a real pain in the ars.

I was hoping to just help you out of a rut. Have you no idea as to how to resolve any of these issues? I don't mind helping but I would think you could take a stab at it at least. Everyone learns that way.

I don't really need a break right now. Do you have any idea what might be causing the #1 problem you described above?

I'll give you a hint: Try opening the SubForm by itself and add a new record.

RG, problem solved. I remembered from one of your earlier posts on another board that you added a second master/child link field to the subform. In your last update you did not have that so I went back in and added ClassID to the master and child link fields. That solved both problems #1 and #2 from my earlier post.

Now when I open the form I am able to add new lessons to classes that are already in the database. Additionally, when I add a new class, the lesson subform remains blank and is ready for me to start selecting lessons that apply to that class within its respective division.

I cannot thank you enough. Here's a virtual firm hand shake and man hug.

On a side note, thanks for lighting my fire and not filling my bucket. I did not notice that in your signature until now. Funny as I said that exact thing to my student the first day of class.

You are *SO* much wiser now than you were when you started this thread. Ready to mark this thread as Solved? You can reference this Forum in the other forum as a solution. I don't think PKStormy will mind (He's the admin over there and posts here as well).

Yes I am still in the USMC; I teach warfighting doctrine to Captain's at the Marine Corps - Expeditionary Warfare School.

jtfalk, sorry for the delay in responding to your request. Here is my last working sample version. I have since incorporated the concept into a much larger database but I think this version will get you on your way to bigger and better things. Hope this helps you out.
