Tried to copy and paste a subform and I can't edit the second subform properly

I have a subform and wanted the same subform but with a slightly different query populating it. So I copied and pasted the subform onto the form.

But the second form, while it looks exactly like the original form in form view, looks entirely different in design view (see attached image). I can't change the query because the little box that is normally at the upper left corner of a subform that allows you to access its properties isn't there.

Is there a way around this? Or do I simply have to create the subform from scratch?

you can copy/paste the subform, but make sure the LINKED fields are correct,
    and the query is correct,
and any form objects In the query do not point to the old form/suborm.

Instead of copy/paste, in design mode of the main form, drag the subform onto the main form from the navigation pane.
