How do I make the top row in a form the entry row?

    Hi there

SO I have a subform embedded in a form which lists the details I want. To add a new record you have to scroll to the bottom of the list. Is tehre anyway that I can set the top row as the entry row for new records?

I've never heard of a way. The normal workarounds are:

    • two subforms, one in data entry mode showing one record stacked on top of another showing existing records
    • unbound textboxes above the subform with code to add the values within to the underlying data

in either case, you requery the lower subform after adding a record.

or set the form data entry property to true - but you don't see existing records (oops - just realised that was Paul's suggestion)

or have code which takes you to the last record (given that 'last' doesn't mean anything in databases without an order)

Ahh ok thanks so much. I'm going to see if we really want to make changes like that or if the setup as is will be good enough. Appreciate the help @pbaldy

Closest thing I can think of besides the aforementioned would be a split form. While clicking on the new record button in the form navigation bar would take you to a new record, and all the controls at the top of the form would be blank, you'd be entering data in the top of the form itself, not the top of a list of records. However, the list would remain in view, and I don't think any requerying of form or subform would be required.
