Conditioning Acces to accomodate "-" or "/" in numeric fields

    Greetings
    Problem 1
I am setting up a table where I want some records to be entered. The records are numeric and will be used to carry out some calculations e.g. Averages, Sum total etc.
The records are students scores in a test. In some cases a student might have a dash i.e. "-" or "/".

    1) Now when I set the field data type to Number, access does not accept the dash "-" or "/".
Question1: How can we condition access to accept these symbols?

You cannot. A number type field will accept only numbers, the minus sign or a plus sign.
If you need to have "/" as part of the grade, you must use a text type field.

    You say

    1) Now when I set the field data type to Number, access does not accept the dash "-" or "/".
If the grades, the values should be between 0 and 100. How does "/" fit in as part of a grade?
In a query, you can use functions to remove the "/", then do the calculations.

It would help to have examples of the grades and the wanted/expected calculations results.
