Someone once told me 'NEVER open an Access db on a thumb drive' (also meaning stick, flash drive, whatever you want to call it) and I think they were speaking from experience. I know it's too late for you now, but I'm suggesting you refrain from doing so going forwards. Then again, by slave you might not be referring to said thumb drive so you can only file that suggestion away for future consideration.
Also any drive recovery tool that might help, I would certainly take recommendations.
I used Recuvah on a usb drive that freakin windows 10 formatted on me without my help. Got back a decent number of files but not everything. There are a few "free" versions of recovery software. This one doesn't seem to have a limit on the number of files or gb's that you can recover without payment when using it.
