    Treeview control not available

    Hello all,

This is driving me crazy, and it is beginning to be a very short drive. I am by no means a rocket scientist when it comes to this stuff but I have always gotten by.

I am running Windows 10 64 bit on my home laptop and access 2010. I am trying to use a Treeview control however, it is not available in the activex controls. I have copied over and registered the mscomctl.ocx file successfully but I still don't have the control available.

    Please help.

    Thanks in advance
    Dave

What you are forgetting is that many of us post answers on both forums.
And for those that don't, time may be wasted repeating answers given elsewhere

If you do cross post, state you have done so & provide the link yourself

The solution would seem to be a vba one. For many years, I've stayed away from ActiveX controls as much as possible, seemingly for good reasons that really didn't come to light for quite some time. Here's a link to a vba source for treeview, which also contains a link to the KB article that lists all the controls that belong to the defunct library.

When you get a solution in one forum, please update the other ASAP so that no one spends time on a solution you already have. Thank you for accepting that you need to declare cross posting (in both forums, actually).

    Micron,

Thanks. I want to use the treeview within access because I am just beginning at this and I use instructional videos on line that use the control in access so I want to be able to follow along to better understand what is going on. My understanding of VBA isn't that good yet to be able to use the other code and understand it but I am trying to get up to speed.

Once I get more familiar with the code etc, I will most likely use the other alternatives as I have already learned some of the pitfalls of the ActiveX controls going thru this exercise.

I will update both posts when it is resolved.

Sorry for any confusion and any other trouble I may have caused, it was not intentional. I have the utmost respect for you pros out there that can assist people like me that are trying to learn from all of you that are willing to assist.

    Thanks

    Dave

Make sure they aren't out of date. There's no point in trying to follow them and implement their solutions for controls that have become deprecated. From what little I read of the KB, the entire control library has become non-functional for certain platforms. To start creating db's that use any of them seems pointless to me. As soon as the owner/customer/company updates, your applications will cease to function as intended, if at all. Quite possibly the result will be something that balks the moment it's opened as Access attempts to verify the project references you have set. The article seems to say that they don't work - not that they're not included in newer platforms and all you have to do is find an old version of the library.

Re-Installing Office as 32 bit instead of 64 bit has at least made it so the control is available. I had the issue of Access files that worked at work would not work on my home PC, so at least the 2 are compatible now, I didn't realize I had the 64 bit version installed on my home PC.
