Access jumping - ie combo box just closes when scrolling or jumps from VBA window to DB window

    Hello all,

Pretty new to Access - apart from one I did many many many years ago and therefore am very very rusty!

I am now putting together my first one but the screen keeps doing odd things - flickering quite often even when left alone. But more oddly it seems to jump on its own sometimes. The two odd examples are when I am scrolling down a combo box to select a value it will just close up for no reason, or I have been using the VBA window when for no apparent reason it jumps back to the database window.

Have I inadvertently added some sort of bug already?

The database is quite simplistic at this point - customers and suppliers with some main forms, subforms and pop up forms. I have entered a bit of coding to do some bits for me (such as putting first line in combo box, or refreshing main form data when leaving pop up dialog form etc..)

    Many thanks

Is there anything running in the timer event of an open form?

    Smile

No - I have just been through them all to double check.

Hee hee - I don't have enough knowledge yet to consider use of the timer event!

    Thank you

Run Compact & Repair for a start. Do this frequently during development. Save, Save, Save. Corruption is common during development when frequent design changes occur.
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

    Hi BobFitz and June7

I have compacted and repaired but no difference yet. I am saving back up copies like mad!!!!

I think I have attached the db correctly? It wont let me save as mdb as opposed to accdb as suggested though.

So far it is in the very early stages and I have really only worked on getting the customers working the way I want (or at this stage - the way I think I want!).

    Many thanks

Played around with db, don't get any of the described issues.

Try a different computer if you have available.

Does the behavior occur only with any particular form?

    Thanks June7

Happens no matter what I am doing.

I have just been into the Northwind Traders sample database though and it is also happening there so maybe it is an issue as you say with this computer.

Will see if I can get it onto another computer to see what happens - although now I seem to be seeing flickering no matter what I am doing on my computer - but may just be a trick of my eyes from looking at my db for so long!!!!

    Again - thanks

Hee hee - I am such a numpty!!!! Solution was so very simple:

I have a slideshow running as my desktop background (piccies of my pets!). Seems that was causing the jumping and flickering around. I have now set to a static picture and as if by magic no more jumping! At least I think - not happened since I changed it.

Thank you everyone, but if it happens again I may be back
