Text Filtering from a Datasheet Column

I have a table in datasheet view that has a couple of columns that contain names that have commas in them. I'm trying to use the column dropdown to filter. I select Text Filters>Begins With and enter "SMITH, J" with and without the quotes. I get the "Enter a valid value" error on both. I've tried to surround the filter text with [] and surrounding just the comma with [] but keep getting the error.

I'm fairly new to all this so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!!!!!

The best place to filter data is with a Query (that is one the things Queries were designed for!).
