I apologize for not mentioning the fact that I need this to be updateable - to me it was a "given" as I am attempting to get this onto a form - this was my bad.

Ajax - reading through that link has got me confused and intrigued at the same time and am going to have to re-read again and again to wrap my head around it all but the examples that ridders52 give are extremely interesting as I am also going to need to "fix" how I handle the marks after I get this attendance thing straightened out.

So the million dollar question for me here is -- do I attempt to get this "workaround" working or should I scrap how I am going about this and start from scratch?

What are you thoughts on this?

    Thanks again for any advice

Personally I would start again - get away from the excel thinking. For input/edit purposes, the rule is one form, one table. So use subforms

"Get away from the excel thinking"

That sir is my biggest hurdle as I have always done everything with excel and took on this project at work in order to learn Access - trust me, many times I have thought of scrapping this whole access project and gone to excel but am persevering and in the long run am actually learning.
