Your post #11 and #13 threw me a curve. Why can't you just opem the back end directly in Access? Is the BackEnd an .MDB file?

Back end is SQL Server, but i have tables in ms Access as well - SQL as data source
It sounds like the table to which you want to add the field is in SQL Server and so you need to use SQL Server to add the field.
yes, i added fields in SQL server on test machine, but how to change the datasource in access to test machine - this is a question.
Can't you use the Linked Table manager?
i might be able to use the Linked Table manager - how can i access it?
Tools>Database Utilities>Linked Table Manager
Thanks,
I did it - all fine, but when tried to open a table in access, it gave me a pop up window for password, and by default it was old datasource. Tried many times - no change
As I said earlier, I have not hooked Access to SQL Server before so I doubt I will be of much help with this issue.
I see
Where in Access can I change the option, that when i have pop up window with user and password, there would be an option tho choose data source.
Thanks
I don't know that there is one. Do you have a password on the SQL Server BackEnd?
Yes, I do have password
A friend suggested that SQL Server is selected at the OS level with a DSN:
Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC) > System DSN > Add, then select 'SQL Server'.
Is this what you did?
Yes, I added it there as well.
Thanks
