    Sharing workgroup file

Hi... I have a workgroup file and a shortcut to my db. The shortcut works fine on my pc but when I try and let another user on another pc use the shortcut... they can't access it. Our naming conventions are different for the shared drives... Wondering if anyone has any other ideas.

    Thanks.

    Hi,
"Our naming conventions are different for the shared drives"
    *hint hint*

Even then, Access wont let 2 people use the same db at the same time. you are best splitting the db. do a google search for "Access Split db." Fairly simple process.

    Thanks

Even with splitting will it still allow me post the shortcut correctly?

you wont need a shortcut once the database is split. each user gets his/her own front end.

Okay... last question... even with splitting, how will that affect the workgroups?

AFAIK, it shouldn't. All it does is make the db multi-user.

I guess my issue is that I need the workgroups to transfer to others access. However, I can't seem to get my security settings on their version of access. Splitting the db (from what I can see) still won't allow that. It defaults the users workgroup and not the custom workgroup that I created.

Thats my big issue... I actually only have about 7 users using the db, however, they are in multiple locations. I know there is way to do with the shortcut, but my shortcut won't work.

Well are you using the workgroup solely as a means to allow multiple people to use the same db? If you dont have any security issues, you might be better off getting rid of the workgroup and just splitting the db.

I need a group of users to be read only and another group to upload data.

Any thoughts? I was exploring a built in security settings through code but I am not that savvy with programming.
