editing drop down menu in database (not designed by me)

    Hi,

    New here.

Trying to enter data to a database. Need to add to a list of items, however the list is not updating once I add new list item.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    ea

when you add items, you must refresh the list.

    Thanks. But it's not working.

I want to add a new entry into the database. I add a new 'asset' (as we call them)

As the item I want to add is not in the list, I get a pop up box asking me if I want to edit the items list. click yes

Item list is pre-filled with the new item. click OK.

But the new item is not in the list, and I am asked if I want to add a new item to the list again...

the list should be filled from a query. you cant add items to the listbox while in the list box.
you must add the new item in the table, then come back to your data entry form , then refresh the list.

    Ranman256,

I don't think they are using a list box. A Combo Box is also known as a drop down menu or drop down list.

A Combo Box also has a Not In List event.

can you help them with using a combo box and the Not In List event to add the item?

I'm having trouble understanding what you mean by "enter data to a database". What are you trying to do exactly? Create a new record? Add a value to a combo box that is populated by a value list?
If the latter, could you post screenshots of what you're doing? I just tried this and I can add values to combo boxes with value lists just fine.
