Adding permissions to MS Access 2007 folder?

    Hello

I am unable to update records in my online Access 2007 database table due to the lack of permisions and need to assign write and modify permissions to the folder that houses my database.

Specifically, I need to grant permission to IUSR to write and modify my database - and I am unsure how to do it. I have right-clicked on the folder (not on the database itself), selected Properties, and then clicked on the Security tab as follows:

Name:	SecurityTab.jpg

Size:	46.5 KB
ID:	26465

The ticks/checks in that screenshot are misleading - those permissions have not been added (when they are added properly, they should be greyed out). So, I go to Add and get this:

Name:	After_clicking_Add.jpg
Views:	13
Size:	29.6 KB
ID:	26466

What do I do next, please, to add those modify and write permissions to IUSR?

    Thank you.

I don't think you can do that without giving IUSR access to c:\Users\Steve.. to begin with. If you want someone else who is using that machine to be able to use that database, put the database in its own folder on c:\, and grant the required permissions on that folder. I wouldn't advise messing about with the permissions on your folder in c:\users.

those permissions have not been added (when they are added properly, they should be greyed out).
If the permissions are greyed out, it means that they are being inherited from a higher level, and can't be changed unless you break the inheritance.

From your screen capture, I would say that the user IUSR does have the required permission already. What is IUSR? Is it a special type of user?

Is there a reason why you can't just put the database in a folder on C:\ ?

    Hello John_G

    Thanks for your reply.

This probably best answers your question:

According to this page: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/175168 'The most common reason [for being unable to modify/write to an Access database] is that the Internet Guest account (IUSR_MACHINE), which is by default part of the "Everyone" group, does not have Write permissions on the database file (.mdb). To fix this problem, use the Security tab in Explorer to adjust the properties for this file so that the Internet Guest account has the correct permissions.'
Ideally, what I would like to do is have IUSR inherit all the permissions from Steve-PC which is this PC from where all the work is done - but not sure how to do that.

The folder that contains the database is in my Documents folder on my C drive.
