I have created a link to an Excel spreadsheet in Access so we can use the data in the spreadsheet as a table. However, whenever someone opens a particular query in the Access DB, it opens it as read/write and locks everyone else out of the spreadsheet. What's even stranger is that sometimes it actually opens the spreadsheet in Excel! Even when the user closes the query, it sometimes leaves their lock on the spreadsheet until they exit the DB. This query opens only the spreadsheet (no other tables) and extracts just the data needed for the DB to make the data more user friendly. I have checked the query to see if it is editable, and it is not. Is there a way to make the link to the spreadsheet read-only (which I thought was the default)? If not, is there a way to make the spreadsheet read-only in the query?
Thanks.
