    Why link tables?

Is the reason it is good to link tables because if you change info in one table it will change the corresponding info in the linked table (i.e. name)?

Do you mean joining related tables? You would join an employee table to an activity table on an employee ID. If the employee changed their name, the name would only change in the employee table (it would not be saved in the activity table at all). When you reported on activity, you would join the tables together in a query, so you would always get the current name on the report.

A multi user the database must be split. That is the only correct, supported deployment. One must link front to back in order to connect to the data tables.
