Listbox Changes BackColor When Selected

I have an interesting situation going on that I just cannot figure out. I have a listbox that only changes to the backcolor that I select when I am focused on the listbox. As soon as I focus on a different control the color changes. When I focus back on the listbox, the color changes back again.

Can anybody shine some light on whatever property may be causing this?

There's only one event in which code is run which is completely unrelated.

Before going to that length, it looks like whatever the backcolor of the form is is what it is turning to when not focused. For instance...

If the form is green and the listbox is white...
-when focused on the listbox it appears white
-when not focused​ on the listbox, it is green
