Unable to select multiple fields in the field list

I am trying to add existing fields to a form manually in design view. Although I am able to insert the fields individually, I am not able to multi-select them using the SHIFT/CTRL button. Why is it so?



EDIT: I was able to multi-select after inserting one field manually.

select individual fields hold Ctl key, click

shift -click (creates a group from the already selected field)

I found that the SHIFT/CTRL keys did not work for multiple selection till I inserted the first field (the Primary ID) manually. Once I did this, they started functioning normally.
