Change appearance of text box to a line

    Good afternoon all!

I thought this would be simple, but I cannot find a format for it. I want to cause my text boxes to look like lines instead of boxes. Am I missing something, or is this not possible?

    Thanks!

Not possible. A text box is a text box. There is a line control, if you want to create a line.
Why have a text box look like a line? You can hide (make not visible) the text box......

you could set the backcolour to the required colour and the height to say 1mm

Essentially I just wanted text output in the "box" to appear as a field that looks like a line, not a box, sort of like This____________

For some reason I thought this would be a setting for the appearance of the box. Once it was not there, I figured it was just a complicated combination of settings. I appreciate the education though, I can make them transparent and put in lines then. I was just hoping to avoid the extra work.

    Thanks!

    Turns out it is possible!

You have to right click on the text box in design mode and choose "special effects". One of the choices there is a line. Make sure you have the background transparent, and you have a text box with the appearance of a line. It doesn't appear that this can be changed in the properties box where I was spending most of my time. Once you go back to Form mode, the box now looks like a line.

    Thanks!

I think I see what you require

    this might work for you

Use a combination of the format property and the underline property for the textbox

    1. set borderstyle to transparent
    2. set the font underline to yes
    3. for a number field set the format property to ;;_____________;_____________

set the number of underscore characters to be less than the width of the textbox and the number of semi colons on the datatype - see this link for more about the format property

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/lib.../ff823190.aspx

    click through for each datatype

numbers have the most format options

    positive;negative;0;null

Thanks Ajax. I was busy editing my post while you posted this with a solution. One of my co-workers figured it out while messing around in context menus. I didn't think to look there.

Now, if someone could tell me how to delete a post off this forum since I double posted here, I would be most grateful.

    Thanks!

don't know if that can be done by ordinary subscriber - but I've learned something new today - I thought 'chiselled' meant something else!
