just experimenting with the unmatched query wizard - just to get an idea of how it works and to look at the sql.

I noticed that in the field list it shows short text fields but not long text fields is there a reason why or is this a reason to avoid wizards

I am not certain what you are referring to. Do you mean if the Field List that shows which fields you can join the tables on? Note that you cannot join tables on Memo fields. But you should be able to display them.

Note that if for some reason it does not show them in the fields to display, you can still use the Unmatched Query to set up the query, and then after saving it you can go into it and edit it to make other changes.

One limitation that the Wizards have is that they only let you join your tables on one field. However, just like with the previous comments, you can start there, and go in and edit it afterwards (to add the other joins).
