Can't display fields contains more than 256 characters

I have a linked table contains some fields have more than 256 characters. While I used that table in a simple query, they only show the first 255 characters.

Then, I change the Total from "Group by" to "First". Some fields display perfectly. However, some fields return nothing for the ones with more than 256 characters.

Since it's linked table, I am not able to define field formats to memo. Is there any solution for this?

Any recommendation is appreciated. Thank you!

not sure what you are saying - text fields are limited to 255 characters, memo's to a lot more, but you are saying 'Since it's linked table, I am not able to define field formats to memo'. so if your fields in the linked table are text, you are limited to 255 characters, end of.

Not sure what you mean by define field formats to memo - do you mean field types?

memo field types do not work well with group by queries - read this link

if your query is just grouping (i.e. does not have any sum, avg, etc) then try SELECT DISTINCT instead

The query is basically just grouping with a filter for one table:

I meant field type while I said field formats. The fields on linked excel file are formatted as general.

I read this link when I first encounter this problem, that is why I changed the total option from "Group by" to "First".

    Thank you for your help.

It seems like the only solution is using import file instead of linking it. Thank you.
