Access Newb needs to import a large excel spreadsheet into Access

I'm trying to import an Excel file into access as a table so I can use the data in other tables I am building. When I try to import to file, I get an error message telling me that there are over 255 columns and not all my data will be imported. The file is a report I pull from another system at work and it is very large, is there a way to get past the 255 column limit? Thanks for your time!

Add 2 idendity columns in Excel (so later you can match the 2 parts together), then import into 2 tables in Access. Probably the data you have in Excel will need to be imported into several tables in Access. Using the idendity columns you can match the data in the 2 import tables to distribute them (use append queries here) into the correct Access tables.

If you don't already have an existing database structure in Access, your first job should be to analyse your data and build a set of normalized tables in Access.

    Kind regards
