How do you enter just a time such as "11:15 AM" with Access and SQL Server?

Access 2007 front end. Sql Server 2008 R2 back end. I have two fields on a form:

Field 1 Oral Hearing Date: Enter a date for the court hearing.

Field 2 Oral Hearing Time: Enter the time such as 11:15 AM

I have tried SQL Data type "time(7)" but I can't find anything on it basic enough for my needs. It seems like a really complicated concept. I tried it as a Varchar(8) to hold 11:15 AM, but no luck.

How do I get hours, minutes and AM or PM.

    Thanks

Posting your solution could help other users. FWIW, I'd store the data in a single date/time field, as comparisons and date/time math would be easier. I use unbound date and time textboxes on a form, and combine them into a hidden date/time field.
